“Digital Fortress”
Chapters 1-11

This book is extremely good so far. I’ve heard that it isn’t as good as Dan Brown’s other books, but I think it will end up being really good. So far, the plot has been set up really well. I know exactly what is going on and I’m not totally confused about all of the crazy computer talk that is going on! I know that Strathmore is going to get in trouble for not telling anybody about the emergency that is going on with Digital Fortress. I am willing to bet that Phil Chartrukian has something to do with Strathmore getting in trouble. I also think that something really bad is going to happen to David while he is over in Spain recovering Tankado’s possessions, although I’m not really sure what that bad thing will be. I think that TRANSLTR and Digital Fortress sound extremely weird. I hope the book continues to be really interesting and has a better ending then The Da Vinci Code.

“Digital Fortress”
Chapters 12-28

This book is still getting better. There is definitely a theme of good vs. evil going on here, but that isn’t really a very big surprise. That is a theme that is somehow incorporated into most books. I think that the director of the NSA, Leland Fontaine, is North Dakota. He and Strathmore don’t get along at all and Fontaine could be using Digital Fortress as a way to get back at Strathmore. Fontaine is out of the country at the time and is the position to get secret henchmen working for him. Maybe I am way off with my guess, but Dan Brown usually uses people who are mentioned and well known by the other characters as the villain, so I think it seems like a pretty logical guess. I also know that David will somehow end up fighting for his life because there is a henchman following him around in his search for Tankado’s ring. I still think this book is really interesting and has a really good plot.

“Digital Fortress”
Chapters 29-45

I am pretty much positive that Hale is not North Dakota. It is way too obvious of a guess and Susan came up with it way too early in the story for it to be true. If the author already had people correctly guessing who his villain was, there would be no point for him to write the book and no point in anybody reading the book. I knew that Chartrukian would get Strathmore in trouble somehow. Between him telling Jabba about how long TRANSLTR has been running, Hale being extremely curious, and Brinkerhoff finding out that TRANSLTR was doing a billion dollar job, the problem was bound to get around to other NSA staff. I am starting to think that this book is getting a little repetitive and boring. I’m beginning to wonder how many more people David is going to end up randomly finding in order to finally get the ring. In real life, there is no way that he would have found all of those people on his own. He is a college professor, not an FBI agent. Although this book isn’t quite as good as it started out to be, I still think that it is a lot better then most books we have had to read for English.

“Digital Fortress”
Chapters 46-67

This book is now getting extremely predictable. David found Megan at the airport (big surprise there) and I’m betting that she sold the ring. David will keep chasing people around and he will end up finding the ring just before the end of the book. I’m also changing my mind about who North Dakota is. I think that it is Strathmore. He is the person who everyone trusts, he sent David to go find the ring, and he is trying to keep everyone, including Susan, in the dark about everything that is really going on. I think that Strathmore is the one who killed Chartrukian. Susan never did specify who the other voice that she heard in the vent was, and even though Hale went to go stop Chartrukian, that event could have been a decoy the author threw to the reader to keep them thinking that Hale is North Dakota. Strathmore is trying to make himself seem like the good guy who is fighting off all of the “bad guys” who work for the NSA. I’m not really sure what Strathmore’s motives for working with Digital Fortress would be, but I still think that he is North Dakota. Now I’m beginning to see why everybody thinks that this book is boring.

Digital Fortress
Chapters 68-85

This book just got a whole lot better. The author came up with a plot that virtually nobody would predict. Although David would have probably never found all of those people to get the ring in real life, at least the chain did not keep going until the end of the book. The whole theme of good vs. evil has been shaken up and spun around so much in this section that you can’t really tell who’s right and who’s wrong anymore. I’m not really sure if there is a North Dakota anymore. I’m kind of bummed out because I thought I had this whole book figured out and now I have no clue what is going to happen next. At least the book is getting a lot better after the downfall it had in the middle. I think that the ending of this book is going to be a whole lot better than I had originally expected it to be.

Chapters 86-106

Strathmore is crazy. There is something extremely wrong with his head. How could he think that nobody would find out about his huge and elaborate scam to get money, glory, and Susan. I really don’t like that guy. He lied to everybody in order to get fame and fortune and it didn’t end up working out for him at all. Plus, he was North Dakota and that makes everything a whole lot worse. Tankado didn’t even have a real partner and Strathmore just used that name in order to get money from Numataka and his software company. I think that the author wanted to let people know that lying can get you into some really bad situations and he used Strathmore’s scheme to convey that to his audience. I also think that Susan was extremely stupid for not figuring out that Strathmore was in love with her. Why else would he want to protect her from everybody and send her fiancĂ© to Spain when they were supposed to be going on vacation? I hope that Susan and David live because otherwise the whole book will be sad and that would be really horrible.

Digital Fortress
Chapters 107-128

Wow! The ending of this book was amazing. Whoever said that this book is just okay is nuts! I’m glad that Susan and David lived. I’m also glad that they figured out the pass-key. Of course there was a whole lot of drama and last second hysterics added to make the ending “more interesting,” but that is the kind of thing I like at the end of a book to make it better. The book ended up being really good. The plot was very good for most of the book. It stalled out a little during the middle of the story, but the rest of the time I was reading I was on the edge of my seat trying to figure out what would happen next. I don’t think that the book was supposed to convey any special message. The author may have been trying to tell people that they shouldn’t lie and should listen to people who are trained in fields you aren’t trained in, but I’m thinking that the book was mostly written for entertainment. I’m really glad that I read this book because it was great!
